Spring Fling Duathlon

Through rain and sleet, the annual Spring Fling Duathlon was held in Fresno, California to kick off the triathlon season. Organizers had to redesign the course because of weather conditions. Instead of the proposed route of 4 mile run, 16 mile bike, 2 mile run, the bike portion was cut by six miles. I was able to finish in 2 hours and 12 minutes, placing 7th in my age division.

Spring Fling Duathlon Results Age 30-39

1 Felicia Gomez39 1:03:31
2 Shelly Lynn 38 1:14:27
3 Sheila Castro 38 1:20:06
4 Jamie Martin 32 1:41:05
5Jennifer Sano 35 1:47:10
6 Stacey Brownell 34 1:54:10
7 Melanie Tatco 30 2:12:18

A lesson learned from this event was focus, persistence, cleanliness, and organization. Persistence is the key to success. Cleanliness is not part of the athletic agenda (At the beginning of the race, I had once clean shoes which is now filled with mud... AGH!!). A disorganized transition resulted in my "lapsed" time. Lastly, focus and determination will lead to cheers at the finish line.

it was great seeing you out there! I'll make sure the Splash and Dash transition is organized! What made this one hard to keep organized was the side path around the bikes... and hopping over the barrier from the road? I had to leave early to go to a lifeguard instructor training class but it was fun!
